NEWELL, WV —As the result of a significant fire at Ergon – West Virginia Inc. (EWV) on Saturday, May 29, 2021, the Newell, West Virginia, refinery has declared an event of force majeure. Assessment of the damage is ongoing. Management will share updates as they are available on ergon.com.
Product inventories, which were already at critically low levels due to a recent planned turnaround and subsequent delayed startup, are depleted. Products impacted include paraffinic process oils, waxes, and fuels. Ergon’s naphthenic refinery was not affected.

While this event was unavoidable, we regret any inconvenience and are committed to making the necessary repairs, bringing the refinery back online, and resuming supply for our customers as soon as possible.”
